Mayor Mauricio Domogan and KALTIMEX Energy Philippines, Inc chairman Krishan Kumar Ralhan (2nd from left, seated) sign the Memorandum of Agreement for the rehabilitation, upgrading, expansion of the three mini hydro-electric plants in Asin.The agreement will be up for confirmation by the city council. Obey the law, nobody is exempted-Mayor tells Muslims

Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan this week warned erring Muslims in the city to obey the city ordinances including national laws as the city government is bent on implementing the role of law.

The mayor made this warning during the regular Ugnayan with the local media at his office on Wednesday where he also issued an emotional condemnation on the massacre of 44 Special Action Force in Mamasapano Maguindanao, of which 13 are from the Cordillera. A message of condolences to the families of the SAF from the Cordillera region signed by all the city officials led by the mayor was issued last Friday.

Support drives against illegal vending, Muslim community urged

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan called on the city's Muslim Community to support the campaign against illegal vending in this mountain resort.

This came as another incident of clashes between Public Order and Safety Division (POSD) personnel and Muslim vendors happened again in the Central Business District (CBD) this month.

Domogan said, "the Muslims residing and having business deals in the city is part of the city's community and are not exempt from the laws and ordinances."

Spring festival opens feb. 9

BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio Spring Festival in the city will be launched on Feb. 9, 8 a.m. at the City Hall grounds.

The launching program will usher in the line-up of activities for the Chinese New Year celebration prepared by the Baguio Filipino-Chinese Community and the City Government of Baguio.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan and Rep. Nicasio Aliping Jr. will deliver their messages with celebration chair Dennis Sy and executive committee and parade chair Peter Ng as program leads.

City signs agreement with Kaltimex on Asin hydro operation

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan on Friday signed a memorandum of agreement with Kaltimex Energy Philippines for the privatization, development and operation of the city-owned Asin mini-hydroelectric plants in Tadiangan and Nangalisan, Tuba, Benguet.

The signing came after Kaltimex fully complied with the requirements set in the terms of reference (TOR) for the project. The firm was awarded the project last July 17 after winning the fifth bidding that employed the negotiated procurement method.

Gratitude is never too late for ailing OFW

Since May last year, when her medical condition was published, former overseas worker Fryla Basilio-de la Pena had been keeping tab of help she was receiving from people and institutions that supported her life-time hemodialysis treatment for kidney failure.

Eight months later last week, the former domestic in Hongkong submitted her list to media, saying she'd appreciate it if her gratitude would also find print.

"I'm so blessed, for so many people are concerned about my situation," she wrote above her roster of Samaritans. "Thanks a lot for their prayers, financial support, blood donations and whatever assistance they had shared."

City grieves death of cops

BAGUIO CITY – The city government joined the nation in mourning the death of the 44 elite policemen, 13 of whom hailed from the Cordillera region, in an encounter in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last Jan. 25.

"It was very sad and very unfortunate that it happened in Mindanao and while the peace agreement is being worked out. Words are not enough to express our sympathies. We condole with the families of our fallen policemen," the mayor said.

Sick laborer wanting of Samaritans

Until he was sidelined by kidney failure, Cedric Waig, a 55-year old laborer residing at the Lions Head, Camp 7 here was making ends meet , enabling him to raise two sons. His kids, Reynaldo, 31, and Roldan, 30, are now laborers themselves, each earning P5,000 a month, with the latter now raising his own family.

Even if his sons would pool their earnings to support their father's twice-a-week hemodialysis treatment that has to go on for a life-time, the sum of P10,000 would still fall short of his basic monthly medication requirement of P25,000, broken down to P3,200 per session, including hemoglobin enhancing injection.

City joins civil registration month this february

BAGUIO CITY – the National Statistics Office (NSO) and the Civil Registry Office (CRO) here will be extending free services come February as part of the celebration of the Civil Registration Month here.

The scheduled free issuances of certified copies of civil registry documents such as birth certificates, marriage certificates and death certificates are however scheduled on February 27.
