CARAA-Baguio Athletes proudly show off the medals they contributed with 24 gold, 19 silver, and 17 silver medals out of the the combined total output for the whole CARAA Team with 26-21 and 21 gold,silver and bronze total medal aggregates landing as the 5th Runner-Up during the recent Palarong Pambansa in San Jose, Antique .. The cash incentives for the Baguio athletes was announced by City officials headed by Mayor Mauricio Domogan, Vice Mayor Edison Bilog and DepEd-CAR assistant regional director and OIC City Schools Superintendent Soraya Faculo during City Hall flag raising ceremonies last May 22. CARAA-Baguio athletes who won the Palaro will receive P10,000 each for every gold medal earned while P5,000 each for every silver medal and P3,000 each for bronze medalists.- By Bong Cayabyab

 

Saculles gets official nod from local screening committee

BAGUIO CITY May 24 – The city's local screening committee for City Director of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) unanimously voted for Senior Superintendent Ramil L. Saculles as the next chief of Baguio's Finest.

Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan, who chaired the 9-man local screening committee, transmitted to the Police Regional Office (PRO) the selection of Saculles as the next BCPO /City Director based on the criteria for selection embodied under Administrative Order No. 057, series of 2017.

Lepanto miner's son reaches out to ailing miner

A miner's son who grew up as a bootblack and golf caddy in Lepanto Mines, Mankayan, Benguet last week reached out to where he spent his boyhood to prop up anew a miner whose family is beset with misfortune.

Now based in Germany as a leading instructor of the Japan Karate Association, Julian Chees last week sent P20,000, half of which was given to 36=year old miner Romeo Garcia who is facing medical and financial woes far beyond his capacity to handle.

Baguio cop chief assures intensified services

BAGUIO CITY May 25 – The newly recommended City Director of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) assured local officials and residents of the intensified services of the members of Baguio's Finest to achieve the societal goal of the city of lasting peace that will contribute to sustainable economic growth.

Senior Superintendent Ramil L. Saculles, recommended by the local screening committee as the permanent BCPO City Director, said the deliverables of the local police force include law enforcement and crime prevention services and crime solution and investigation services with various program components geared towards achieving lasting peace in the city.

City pays tribute to palaro heroes

BAGUIO CITY – The city government paid tribute to its athlete-heroes who were instrumental in Cordillera Administrative Region's improved showing in the Palarong Pambansa held recently in Antique.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan led city officials and employees in feting the contingent led by archer Charmaine Angela Villamor and runner Jeremiah Hipol who contributed the most number of medals among the city athletes and fueled Team Cordillera's fifth runner-up finish with a medal haul of 26 gold, 21 silver and 21 bronze medals.

Residents urged to mind waste disposal to prevent flooding

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan urged residents in the city to strictly observe waste disposal rules to avoid contributing to the city's flooding problem especially at the City Camp basin.

The mayor tasked the heads of the barangays surrounding the major drainage canals at City Camp and San Roque to educate and repeatedly remind their constituents to dispose their garbage properly after noting that the indiscriminate throwing of refuse continues to cause the clogging of the drainage openings and canals which if unchecked will result to flooding during heavy rains and typhoons.

"Indian and Pangasinense" Days in Baguio, considered

BAGUIO CITY – The local legislature passed on first reading two separate proposed ordinances declaring an "Indian Day" and a "Natan La-Pangasinense Day" in the Summer Capital on October 19 and December 8, 2017, respectively, and every year thereafter, and appropriating funds for these events.

Both authored by councilor Edgar Avila, his first measure states that Baguio has long been the home of Indians who have migrated from their homeland and established well-known businesses here and have engaged in community service.

Mayor backs duterte's martial law declaration

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan on Thursday expressed support to the decision of President Rodrigo Duterte to declare Martial Law in Mindanao in response to the terroristic acts of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS)-inspired Maute group in Marawi City that led to still on-going clashes with government troops.

In a statement, the mayor said he fully trusts that the President knows what is best for the country at this moment and that he had enough reasons to justify the imposition of direct military control in Mindanao.

Braulio Dacanay Yaranon

Mayor Mauricio Domogan and members of the City Council present a City Council Resolution to the bereaved wife, former City Councilor Lilia Yaranon, of the late Braulio Dacanay Yaranon who passed away last May 15 at the age of 90. Yaranon was the only Mayor of Baguio to serve in three branches of the government as City Secretary (1954-1959), City Councilor (1960-1963) Vice Mayor (1964-1967) RTC Judge from 1980 until his compulsory retirement in 1997 and eventually won the election as Mayor of Baguio in June 30, 2004. - Rj Cayabyab photo.

 

City schools ready for june 5 opening

BAGUIO CITY – Public elementary and high schools in the city are now ready for the opening of classes on June 5, the city schools division under concurrent officer-in-charge Beatriz Torno announced last Monday.

Department of Education Cordillera OIC assistant regional director Zoraya Facullo, in her report before city officials led by Mayor Mauricio Domogan and Vice Mayor Edison Bilog said that with the conclusion of the preparation drive Brigada Eskwela last week, schools are now prepared for the return of the students.

Public warned vs. four investment companies

BAGUIO CITY – The Dept. of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has warned the public against transacting business with four investment companies identified by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as having no authority to solicit investments.

In a memorandum furnished Mayor Mauricio Domogan, Undersecretary for Local Government Austere Panadero identified the entities as the Golden Heart Helping Hand Foundation, Programme Blessing for the Filipino People Association Inc., Kappa (Kabus Padatoon) and the Bullion Buyer Ltd.

City celebrates flag day

BAGUIO CITY – The city joins the National Flag Day celebration on May 28 with a simple program set 8 a.m. at the Gen. Emilio Shrine in Salud Mitra barangay.

Gen. Emilio F. Aguinado Foundation board member Emilio Aguinado Suntay III will once again grace the program with Mayor Mauricio Domogan.

It will be capped by a tour of the Gen. Aguinaldo Museum.
