Mayor taps NGO’s to help in drives vs. illegal gambling, smoking

BAGUIO CITY – Two non-government organizations have been authorized by Mayor Mauricio Domogan to assist in the campaigns against illegal gambling and smoking in the city.

The mayor last July 18 issued Administrative Order No. 85 authorizing the duly accredited members of the Bantay Baguio (Citizens Watch), Inc. to assist the city government in monitoring the proliferation of illegal activities such as illegal gambling, businesses operating without business permits and others.

On July 21, the mayor issued Administrative Order No. 86 authorizing the members of the Church of God Baguio to assist the city government in the implementation of the Comprehensive Anti-Smoking Ordinance specifically related to the apprehension of smokers in public places and vehicles and the posting of 'No Smoking' signs in conspicuous places in the city.

City prepares for 102nd Baguio day fete

BAGUIO CITY – The city government is gearing up for the 102nd Baguio Charter Day celebration come Sept. 1.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan last week formed the executive committee to spearhead the preparations for the fete.

City administrator Carlos Canilao and Councilor Elmer Datuin will chair the committee which is expected to come up with a line-up of activities to mark the occasion.

Nutrition workers honored Aug. 3

BAGUIO CITY – Speaking during the nutrition month culmination program last Wednesday, August 3, Mayor Mauricio Domogan encouraged the general public to be extra watchful about their food intake, exercise regularly, avoid stressful situations and have enough time for recreation and relaxation.

He also emphasized on eating indigenous yet nutritious food, which may also be medicinal in nature; affordable or easily grown in their backyards.

And consistently with the theme, "Isulongang Breastfeeding-Tama, Sapat at Eksklusibo!" the mayor made known plans for not less than twenty (20) nursing mothers per barangay to convene and breastfeed their babies simultaneously as a showcase.

Domogan spells out 2012 plans

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan Monday laid down his plans for the succeeding year to sustain the momentum gained during the first year of his administration and propel the realization of the goals he set at the start of his term.

In his State of the City Address (SOCA), the mayor spelled out the thrusts and directions he intends to pursue in 2012.

Topping his list is the maintenance of the integrity of the environment which can be done by continuing to preserve and protect the City's urban green areas and watersheds; to assert regulation on water abstraction to ensure sustainable water supply;to intensify the implementation of the Clean Air Ordinance and improve air quality; work out the expansion of the City's Sewerage system to cope with rapid urbanization; andto enhance the aesthetic ambience of city parks.

Domogan cites gains in first year

BAGUIO CITY – The city government attained substantial gains in its various programs during the first year of the administration of Mayor Mauricio Domogan as gleaned from the city executive's report last Monday.

In his State of the City Address (SOCA) delivered before a crowd at the Baguio Convention Center, the mayor cited the city's accomplishments on the following thrusts: environment; fiscal; infrastructure; peace and order; social services; education; and health.

He attributed said achievements to the continuing teamwork and cooperation between the public and the private sectors of the city.
