Asin hydro privatization on as terms approved

BAGUIO CITY – The city government is now preparing to bid out the operation of the city-owned Asin mini-hydroelectric plants in Tuba, Benguet to qualified private investors after the city council last Monday approved the terms of reference (TOR) for the contract to rehabilitate and manage the power generating facility.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan hailed the development as a milestone in the city's thrust to maximize the power generating potential of the plants and restore their viability which slackened under the city government's reins due to lack of funds and expertise.

"I hope we can speed up the paper works to facilitate the bidding and realize the long overdue privatization of this vital facility," he said

City team to monitor, confiscate DEHP-tainted products

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan last week in a meeting with concerned offices cautioned the public about buying apparently Di(2-ethlhexyl) Phthalate (DEHP)-contaminated products allegedly from Taiwan, in business establishments around the city.

The products, he said, are being monitored by the Local Price Monitoring and Coordinating Council (LPMCC) for immediate confiscation, following the receipt of a letter from Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Gregory Domingo and advisory from Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Director Suzette Lazo.

The communication received earlier, warned the general public about DEHP-contaminated food products as being harmful to human beings; with high doses and repeated exposure (and ingestion) causing fertility problems and damages to the kidney.

Rainwater harvesting endorsed

BAGUIO CITY - The city council last week has approved the resolution endorsing rainwater harvesting in public schools and barangays in the city of Baguio.

The approved resolution requested the Baguio Water District (BWD), City Environment Parks and Management Office (CEPMO) and City Building and Architecture Office (CBAO) to encourage other institutions and barangay households to "devise ways to do simple rainwater harvesting to minimize dependence on commercial water supply and to maximize the use of rainwater made available by nature."

The resolution came on the heels of the felt effect climate change where there is heavy precipitation during wet season, but with water shortage as a big volume of water flows underground and to the big bodies of water. Water harvesting thus, is considered as a mitigating measure being adopted to meet the demands of consumers.

Dad seeks help for able blood donors

BAGUIO CITY – Patients with serious illnesses in some of our hospitals are desperately in need of blood transfusion.

The Red Cross and hospitals rely only on the generosity of people who are willing and able to donate their blood to save the lives of others.

In order to boost volunteerism in the barangays, ABC President and Councilor Joel Alangsab has proposed a resolution enjoining officials of the 128 barangays in the city to identify possible blood donors within their communities.

The measure is to strengthen the proposed resolution of Councilor Erdolfo Balajadia for the establishment of a local blood council in the city which is pending approval in the city council.

Mayor thumbs up temporary closure of Loakan road

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan this week approved the temporary closure of Loakan Road particularly the stretch from the junction of Camp John Hay to Scout Barrio area.

The said closure is anchored on the request of the contractor Goldrich Corporation Proprietor William Go for the rehabilitation, improvement, reconstruction and upgrading of the said road which started June 22.

Domogan said, 'approval of the temporary closure will fast track on-going road repairs and expedite completion of the project'.

The road repair is part of the 44M maintenance and rehabilitation work of the Department of Public Works and Highways(DPWH).
