BGHMC offers no balance billing for senior citizens

BAGUIO CITY October 10 – The Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) offers no balance billing for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) in need of medical procedures and surgery for aged hips and joints that need replacement.

Dr. Justinano S. Bai, Medical Officer II of the BGHMC Department of Orthopaedic, said the osteoarthritis surgery for senior citizens and PWDs is available for free by the hospital to the said sectors to ensure their free mobility.

Typhoid fever cases drop by 52 percent

BAGUIO CITY October 10 – The Cordillera office of the Department of Health (DOH-CAR) revealed that typhoid fever cases in the region decreased by 52 percent with registered 1,585 cases for the first nine months of this year compared to the 3,307 cases reported during the same period last year.

Dra. Jennifer Joyce R. Pira, medical officer and head of the DOH-CAR Health Emergency Management Cluster, said there was only 1 typhoid-related death for the reckoning period this year compared to the 2 typhoid-related deaths during the same period last year.

Operator notifies city on increase of tipping fee

BAGUIO CITY October 11 – The Metro Clark Waste Management Corporation (MCWMC) notified the Baguio City government on the impending increase of the tipping fee that the company is charging for every tone of residual waste dumped in its Capas-based waste disposal facility effective January 1, 2018.

In a letter to Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan, MCWMC Marketing Supervisor for LGU Elaine M. Sese explained that the increased tipping fee charged to local governments will P150 per ton of residual waste increasing the existing P500 to P650 due to the increase in the prices of diesel fuel and equipment parts which are major components of their operations.

Healthy lifestyle to prevent mental health problems

BAGUIO CITY October 11 – A mental health expert from the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGMC) Department of Psychiatry underscored that the practice of healthy lifestyle will help prevent individuals from contracting illnesses that will lead to mental disorders and compromise their ability to socialize and become productive citizens of the communities where they belong.

Dr. Lowell A. Rebucal, Medical Specialist II and Department Head of BGHMC's Department of Psychiatry, said one of the primary causes of mental health problems among those seeking medical attention from them is stress, thus, the need for people to appropriately manage stress to prevent them from contracting mental that compromises their quality of life.

City to lobby for lower tipping fees

BAGUIO CITY October 12 – Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan revealed the local government will lobbying the management of the Metro Clark Waste Management Corporation for the reduction of the proposed increase in tipping fees in its residual waste dump facility starting next year to reduce the projected increase in the city's expenses on solid waste management.

The local chief executive said the local government will negotiate with Metro Clark to reduce their proposed P650 tipping fee per ton of garbage dumped in its Capas sanitary landfill to at least P600 to reducing the city's expenses on the hauling of waste outside the city.
