Streetlights along scenic kennon rd. to be restored

The street lights that used to greet passengers to Baguio through the scenic Kennon Rd. will be restored by the Benguet Electric Cooperative which wrote-off the power arrears and pay the incoming energy consumption through the cooperative social responsibility fund of director Robert Valentin of Tuba and Sablan towns.

In a letter, Valentin informed Benguet Rep. Ronald Cosalan, provincial governor Crescenco Pacalso, Tuba mayor Ignacio Rivera and Punong barangy Ciupriano Balinag of Camp 1, Tuba that the Beneco board condoned power bills totaling P40,272.75, with future payments estimated at P4,500 a month charged to his corporate social responsibility fund.

YMCA academic olympics set oct. 21-22

BAGUIO CITY – Students from various elementary, high schools and colleges in the city will showcase their scholarly prowess in the 2017 Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) Academic Olympics set Oct. 21-22 at the YMCA Baguio.

YMCA Baguio president Jerome Gawidan said the olympics which has run for decades now will feature various competitions including quiz bee, Bible quiz bee, essay writing, on-the-spot drawing, oration, extemporaneous speaking and tula (poem) delivery.

Elderlies air grievances during summit

BAGUIO CITY – Establishment of homes for the aged, mobile geriatric health care units and additional senior citizen-friendly facilities and the rationalization of the one percent share of the senior citizens from the local government unit's budget.

These were the main suggestions broached by the more than 200 senior citizens who participated in the Elderly Summit conducted last week by the city council.

Additional barangay satellite markets sought

BAGUIO CITY – More barangay satellite markets may soon be established in the various barangays in the city in line with the city government's thrust to decongest the central business district as well as to promote livelihood and employment in the barangay level.

The city council committee on market, trade, commerce and agriculture chaired by Councilor Leandro Yangot Jr. proposed a resolution approving the construction of additional barangay satellite markets particularly in the 12 barangays that submitted intent.

Baguio to defend Batang Pinoy title

BAGUIO CITY – The Summer Capital will send a 331-man delegation to the 2017 Batang Pinoy Luzon Leg Competitions slated on October 21 to 28 in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, composed of athletes, coaches and officials including a medical team.

Vigan will also host next year's Palarong Pambansa.
