Christmas in baguio opens

BAGUIO CITY – Children garbed in colorful Christmas attires, glittering lanterns in various shapes and sizes, sparkling lights dancing to yuletide tunes and a big Christmas tree ornamented and illumined.

Such scenes ushered in the month-long celebration of that most wonderful time of the year in this tourist city last Dec. 1.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan, in his Christmas message, exhorted residents to bring to life the Christmas spirit of loving, sharing and giving.

City dads to meet with BCDA, HMC execs

BAGUIO CITY November 28 – The City Council approved a resolution requesting the City Mayor to schedule a meeting among city officials and executives of the State-run Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), the John Hay Management Committee (JHMC) and representatives from concerned government agencies to address various issues relative to the development of the 247-hectare John Hay Special Economic Zone (JHSEZ) which is located within the 625-hectare Camp John Hay forest reservation.

The approval of the resolution came after the appearance of BCDA and JHMC officials before the local legislative body's regular session last Monday wherein they interposed no objection to the proposal emanating from some local legislators for the conduct of a meeting among city officials, BCDA and JHMC executives and representatives from concerned government agencies to address long standing issues relative to the development of the former American rest and recreation area and for the attainment of possible 'win-win solutions' to the identified problems.

Uniform closing time for night spots eyed

BAGUIO CITY – The city council on Monday approved on first reading a proposed ordinance to standardize the closing time for all night establishments in the city to until 2 a.m.

Proponent Councilors Leandro Yangot Jr. and Elmer Datuin said there is a need to make uniform the hours of operation of all night businesses with amusement s such as bars, night clubs, discos, beer gardens, karaoke or videoke bars, billiards, computer centers and internet cafes to until 2 a.m. considering the city's status as a tourist destination.

No building permit for structures near power transmission line

BAGUIO CITY – The City Government will not issue building permits for structures exceeding three meters in height situated near and under high-voltage transmission lines.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan directed the City Buildings and Architecture Office under building official Engr. Nazita Banez to heed the request of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) not to issue building permit to said structures.
