BAGUIO CITY April 23 – The local government recognized the significant contributions of the top ten real property and business taxpayers in the city last year that significantly contributed in improving the financial condition of the city paving the way for the sustained implementation of major development projects and improve the delivery of basic services to the people.

Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan said the taxes are the lifeblood of the government which the local government uses to improve the current state of development in the different barangays.

The top ten business taxpayers issued the appropriate plaques of recognition were RU Aquino Construction and Development Corporation, Coca-Cola FEMSA Philippines, Inc., Pilipino Cable Corporation, Camp John Hay Hotels Corporation, JARCO Realty and Development Corporation, Maybank Philippines, Inc., Mountain Maid Training and Development Foundation, Inc., SM Investment Corporation, On Demand English Innovations Inc., and DHL Global Forwarding, Philippines, Inc., while the top ten real property taxpayers last year were RU Aquino Construction and Development Corporation, Vdara Realty Development Corporation, Diocese of Baguio, SM Investment Corporation, Golden Crown Group Realty Incorporated, Toyota Dagupan City Inc., DMCI Project Developers Inc., BTG Holdings Inc., Ang Charles Ingram or Mountain View Satellite Corporation, and City Light Properties Development Corporation.

The local government annually recognizes the top ten real property and business taxpayers for their vital contributions in the city's resource-generation programs to support the implementation of high impact development projects and enhance the delivery of basic services to the people.

"We are grateful to our taxpayers who have been religiously paying their taxes to the local government which shows that the city is not totally dependent on it's the internal revenue allotment from the national government annually," Mayor Domogan stressed.

According to him, the increasing contributions of real property and business taxpayers to the city's coffers shows the vibrance of the local economy that should be enhanced and sustained to help in improving and elevating the city's economy to greater heights.

The local government is operating at approximately a P2.2-billion budget for this year where only P829 million will come from the IRA being provided by the national government and over P1.4 billion, or 62%, comes from internally generated resources, including that from real property and business taxes.

Domogan urged taxpayers who have not been settling their obligations with the local government to start settling their taxes to help the city improve its tax collection efforts and internally generated resources that will reduce its dependence to the IRA and other fund sources from the national government.

He added the local government plows back to the residents the taxes they pay to the city through the implementation of priority high impact projects and improvement in the delivery of services to the grassroots level.
