Feasibility study for total rehab of market drainage approved

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan signed Resolution No. 65 series of 2019 approving the conduct of a feasibility study for the total rehabilitation of the city market drainage and sewer system including the lines along the Central Business District.

The city council's move stemmed from the recommendation of the City Engineering Office for the outsourcing of the study for the total repair of the drainage and sewer systems at the CBD.

The feasibility study, as noted in the resolution, will be used as guide on how to go about the rehabilitation works and will be integrated to the Master Drainage Plan of the city market and the CBD.

City Engr. Edgar Victorio Olpindo last January asked the body to approve the recommendation made by Engr. I Thea Camiring contained in her memorandum on their accomplishment inspection report on the temporary works done at Block 3 that a total rehabilitation of the market's drainage and sewer system and construction of a mini-sewage treatment plant are in order.

Olpindo also pushed for the appropriation of P2 million for the conduct of the feasibility study.

Acting on the suggestions, the council committee on public works under Coun. Mylen Yaranon sought adoption of the recommendations with the proposed funding referred to the City Budget Office.

The other suggestions made by Camiring on the temporary works were also approved for compliance by the contractor undertaking the project and agencies concerned for monitoring by the market division of the City Treasury Office:

*Declogging activities be scheduled after market activities to avoid inconvenience to the market goers and stall owners;

*Canals and drainage should be for rain water only and not for diverting wastes coming from the business establishments;

*Additional comfort rooms should be provided;

*Proper regulation and location of every type of goods for easy identification during cleaning and disinfection;

*Flushing should be done as often as possible to maintain cleanliness especially at the wet section;

*City Treasury Office should be done by City Treasury Office; and

*Total rehabilitation of the market's drainage and sewer system and construction of mini-sewage treatment plant in the area. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
