Oplan Kaluluwa, advisory for cemetery goers

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan urged cemeterygoers to abide by rules posted by the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO); for a peaceful and orderly commemoration of All Saints and All Souls days, Nov. 1 and 2.

A traffic advisory was issued early, the mayor said, as with the installation of directional signages to the Baguio Public Cemetery, Baguio Memorial Park along Naguilian road, Everlasting, Pyramid, Heaven's Garden along Kias and Loakan road, Benin in Pinsao Proper and Bakakeng memorial parks.

Signages in tourists spots were also prepared by the city engineers office, as vacationers are expected for the long weekend.

As to prohibited items in the cemetery, BCPO personnel shall be posted at the cemetery entrance to confiscate, tag and return bladed weapons, garden tools, liquor, cigarettes, kites, kite-making and flying materials, gambling paraphernalia and loud music makers. Firearms are confiscated outright while gambling, selling of food and flowers within the cemetery is prohibited.

One Hundred Thirty-Three (133) stalls for the sale of candles, cutflowers and materials for floral arrangement, started Oct. 26 at the Ganza area, Burnham Park and ends on Nov. 1. Strict compliance to rules was emphasized by the City Treasurers Office personnel.

Mayor Domogan also pointed out that "bagsakan" and whole sale areas is allowed on certain areas and specific time at the: Old Library Site Parking Area, Oct. 27 to 31, from 7PM to 12 MN only; Jose Abad Santos Drive parking area, Oct. 27 to 31, from 7 PM to 12 MN only; Flower Sinkhole (formerly rabbit terminal), October 26 to Nov. 01, from 8 PM to 4 AM the following day; and Magsaysay Avenue in front of Rice section and Magsaysay building on October 26 to Nov. 1, from 2 AM to 5 AM only, with a no-ticket, no-unloading policy.

The road area, sidewalks and easements should not impede human mobility and garden products should not be scattered, the mayor said.

In an earlier coordination meeting, designated parking, loading and unloading, personnel deployment and medical emergency, and evacuation plans were presented with Oplan Kaluluwa action officer and city administrator Carlos Canilao.

Boy and Girl Scouts of the Philippine Baguio Chapter, uniformed personnel, motorcycle cops, barangay officials, force multipliers and volunteers are involved in all the activities for Undas.

It was known that ambulances, emergency vehicles and firetrucks are on standby, in the memorial sites, for any eventuality.

Tourist spots such as Heritage Hill; Tam-awan; Lourdes Grotto; Camp John Hay Cathedral, Good Shepherd, Botanical, Burnham, Mines View and Wright Parks; the malls and the public market are also monitored by BCPO personnel, force multipliers and volunteers.- ***juliegfianza
