City commends muay thai champ

BAGUIO CITY – The Summer Capital's athletes continue to shine and bring it honor in the world arena.

Proving once again that the city's athletes are world class, Jenelyn Olsim, a member of Muaythai Team Philippines, fought her way to a gold medal during the East Asian Muaythai Championships held at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Hong Kong on August 19, 2018.

A resident of San Carlos Heights, Irisan barangay and a member of local team Tribal Submission Philippines "Team Bagsik", she won in the event's 54 kilogram category beating top-class contenders from other countries.

For her feat, city council members jointly and collectively passed a resolution and signed by Mayor Mauricio Domogan congratulating and commending the Muaythai champion.

Re: City lauds SM Cares Program

BAGUIO CITY – For its SM Cares Program that promotes a barrier-free and disability inclusive environment, the city council approved a resolution and signed by Mayor Mauricio Domogan commending SM City-Baguio as a Persons with Disability (PWD) Friendly establishment in the Summer Capital.

Some notable initiatives of the Program in partnership with other organizations include the annual Angels Walk for Autism, Happy Walk for Down Syndrome, Special Movie Screening for the Blind and Deaf, White Cane Day for the Blind, Disaster Resilience Conference for PWDs and Senior Citizens, and more.

The resolutions states that in line with the city's celebration of National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week every third week of July of every year, SM City-Baguio has been providing free Special Movie Screening for Differently-abled Persons since its institutionalization in 2016.

The SM Cares Program on PWDs received the first Presidential Hall of Fame Award during the 2015 Apolinario Mabini Awards spearheaded by the Philippine Foun dation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled.

"SM City-Baguio has been recognized and awarded as one of the PWD Friendly Establishments in the city during the culminating activity of NDPR Week spearheaded by the city social welfare and development office on 17 July 2018 at the PFVR gymnasium," the measure states.-gaby keith
