Mayor to convene batang pinoy working committees to finalize preparations

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan will convene next week the various working committees to finalize preparations for the City's hosting of the Batang Pinoy 2018 National Championships on Sept. 15-21.

The mayor chairs the executive committee with City Council Committee on Sports and Youth Development Chair Coun. Michael Lawana as vice chair and Sports and Recreation Division Head Gaudencio Gonzales as action officer.

The working committees with their chairmen as named in the mayor's Administrative Order No. 100 series of 2018 are playing venues committee headed by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) representative; billeting and accommodation by the city schools superintendent; program committee, city schools superintendent; medical and emergency response, city health officer; security, traffic and transportation, Baguio City Police director;

Infrastructure or physical, city building official; logistics, geneal services officer; media, public information officer; Baguio delegation for Batang Pinoy, sports and recreation division; marketing and promotions, tourism and special events division; utilities and services, city building official; and secretariat, sports and recreation and PSC staff.

Gonzales said the PSC Batang Pinoy technical team will arrive in the City next week to finalize details on the playing venues and at the same time begin inspecting the billeting areas where the athletes will stay for the duration of the games.

Gonzales said three clustered venues are being eyed to house the delegations from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao: Baguio City High School; Baguio Central School-Dona Josefa Carino Elementary School; and Mabini Elementary School-Quezon Elementary School.

Athletes whose events will be played in La Trinidad, Benguet will also be housed in the town for easy access and mobility.

A total of 27 events will be played in the proposed sports facilities in the City namely arnis at the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council Bldg; athletics at the Baguio Atheltic Bowl; badminton at the Cooyeesan Sports Plaza; basketball at the SLU Burgos Gym and Easter College; boxing at People's Park or Baguio City High School gym; chess at the BENECO Multi-purpose hall; cycling at the Philippine Millitary Academy; dancesport at the University of Baguio; futsal at the St. Louis University; gymnastics at the BCHS Auditorium; karatedo at SM Baguio; lawn tennis at the Baguio Tennis Club; sepak takraw at the Baguio Athletic Bowl; swimming, Baguio Swimming Pool; table tennis at University of the Philippines; taekwondo, UB; triathlon/duathlon at the PMA; volleyball indoor at the St. Vincent and University of the Cordilleras and beach at the Athletic Bowl; weightlifting, Melvin Jones; wushu, FVR Gym and muay thai at the Engineer's Hill Covered Court.

Six other events will be hosted by Benguet: archery possibly at the Benguet State University Football Field; baseball at the Benguet National High School; judo at BSU Covered Court; pencak silat at the BSU Closed Gym; softball at the Benguet NHS and wrestling at the BSU Covered Court.– Aileen P.
