United efforts for victims of drug abuse

BAGUIO CITY–Spiritual leaders involved in the treatment of persons with substance use disorders (SUD) in the city agreed to unify all efforts and coordinate with all other offices towards said endeavor.

This was agreed during the second quarter City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) meeting last week at city hall. A singular approach, albeit a longer term than the phase agreed on earlier, shall be looked into by the spiritual leaders involved in the addiction treatment program.

A universal treatment curriculum for substance use disorders which features a series of credentialing and training for professionals is also looked into. The program includes physiology; treatment; co-occuring mental and medical disorders; counseling skills; screening assessment, planning and documentation; management; crisis intervention; and ethics for addiction professionals. An enhanced program for an in-depth continuing education with the latest information and skills-based activities of the treatment workforce is also an option in the program.

A program for women with SUD problems could be an option in the training curricula,it was known.

A Philippine National Police-initiated and family-centered rehabilitation module with assessment instruments are also considered, with close monitoring by personnel of the City Social Welfare and Development and other involved offices.

Programs for rehabilitation coupled with programs for the prevention of addiction were also suggested.

Joining the meeting are representatives from the City Administrator's Office Department of Education (Dep-Ed), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), City Social Welfare and Development (CSWDO), Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), spiritual leaders from various groups in the city; offices of Vice Mayor Edison Bilog; and Councilor Roberto Ortega, and other concerned agencies.- juliegfianza
