17th fil-chinese friendship day june 9

BAGUIO CITY – The City will mark the 17th Philippine-China Friendship Day with a program set at 9:30 a.m. at the Botanical Garden on June 9.

Highlights of the program will be the unveiling of the Baguio Filipino-Chinese Friendship Garden Marker and the 12 Chinese zodiac sculptures both located at the Botanical Garden and the turn-over of a fire truck by the People's Republic of China Consulate Office based in Laoag City.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan will open the program which will be graced by PROC Laoag City Consul and Head of Post Wang Jianqun, Rep. Mark Go and Association for Philippine-China Understanding (APCU) National President Eugenio Gabriel Lopez.

Celebration Executive Committee Chair Peter Ng said the Baguio Filipino-Chinese Friendship Garden is a symbol of the sister-city relations between the cities of Baguio and Hangzhou forged on August 13, 1982.

"The Friendship Garden recognizes the importance and close relations of the two peoples and the community partnership it purposely emboldens. It is similarly a symbol of the City Government of Baguio's long-standing bond and support to the local Filipino-Chinese community," he said.

"The garden further promotes Filipino and Chinese understanding, cooperation and unity and also offers an experiential insight into the rich Chinese heritage and culture."

The garden now showcases the Panda Bear for its marker as well as the 12 Chinese zodiac sculptures which all represents China's culture.

The program will also witness the signing of the supplemental Memorandum of Agreement between the City and the Fil-Chinese community executive committee.

The fire truck to be donated by the Chine consulate will augment the City's fire-fighting resources.

Councilor Lilia Farinas will lead the invocation during the opening followed by a lion dance presentation by the Bell Church Athletic Group.

A gift-sharing activity with the barangay Day Care pupils will cap the celebration s with City Social Welfare and Development Officer Betty Fangasan, Coun. Peter Fianza, City Administrator Carlos Canilao and EXECOM members Cristeta Leung and Lilian Baniwas. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
