Female dorm continues to keep busy

BAGUIO CITY – The Baguio City Jail-Female Dorm carries on with its reformatory tasks by keeping its residents busy with worthwhile and productive activities month after month.

Female Dorm Warden J/SInsp. April Rose Ayangwa said that for the month of May, her wards are scheduled to undergo a workshop on events hosting on May 28 and to join the World Tobacco Day celebration with their own simple activities on May 31.

June will see the women deprived of liberty joining the observance of the Global Day of Parents on June 1; International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression on June 4; World Environment Day and Negosyo Trainings on June 5; Independence Day celebration on June 12 with the Balagtasan or Oratorical Contest on June 12;

Jingle Making Competition on No Smoking on June 14; World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15; International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence on June 19; Yoga Day, June 21; International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking of Drugs, June 26; and the Micro-, Small and Medium-size Enterprises Day and Lecture on June 27.

These activities are on top of the regular programs including the year-round Theology and Inter-Faith classes being conducted by various religious organizations in the City, Regular Dalaw and Joint Fellowship and Zumba classes.

Last month, they launched the Annual Service Providers' Day and Summit to be held quarterly for purposes of presenting project proposals for support by the benefactors.

April also witnessed the inmates joining the observance of the World Health Day, Autism Awareness Month, Dress Design Made of Recyclable Materials Contest, Lectures on Common Summer Diseases, "Your Face Sounds Familiar" Competition and Seminar on Malaria Awareness.

For the first quarter of the year, Ayangwa's wards joined the Earth Hour celebration, Panagbenga Festival in Jail, National Women's Month, National Bible Month, 1st quarter Adopt-A-Cell, greyhound operation and drug testing, dry run on Oplan Power Failure, National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill, Oplan Sunog fire drill, among others. – Aileen P.
