PSA starts survey of list of establishments April 16

BAGUIO CITY April 12 – The Cordillera office of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA-CAR) will be starting their survey for the so-called List of Establishments in Baguio and Benguet on April 16, 2018.

PSA-CAR regional director Villafe Alibuyug said that in the next 73 days, enumerators will be going around Baguio and Benguet to gather the needed information from establishments that have established legal personality, have a permanent location and are owned by a single individual or group.

The PSA's List of Establishments is a database of all establishments in the country, whether or registered or not with any regulatory body like the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) or the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Among the classification of establishments include agriculture, forestry and fishing; mining and quarrying; manufacturing; electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply; water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities; construction; wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles; transportation and storage; accommodation and food service activities; information and communication; financial and insurance activities; real estate activities; professional, scientific and technical services; administrative and support activities; education; human health and social work activities; arts, entertainment and recreation and other service activities.

Based on the PSA's List of Establishments, there were 8,872 establishments in the city and 4,056 in Benguet in 2015 while there were 9,504 establishments in the city and 4,009 establishments in Benguet in 2016.

In the Cordillera, there was a total of 18,992 registered establishments based on the agency's List of Establishments in 2016 with Baguio City accounting for 50.04 of the registered establishments while Benguet had a share of 21.46 percent of the total number of registered establishments.

Alibuyug said that the results of the List of Establishments will be released next year to serve as a guide for policy and decision-makers in the crafting of the necessary programs that will help in advancing the interest of the concerned sectors in the concerned areas.

The PSA-CAR called on barangay officials in Baguio and Benguet to extend the needed assistance to the assigned enumerators so that the accurate data of the establishments in their areas of jurisdiction will be recorded for the benefit of planners and the concerned local government.

The PSA aims to deliver relevant, reliable statistics in civil registration services for equitable development towards improved quality of life for all.

The PSA conducts the census of population and housing, census of agriculture and fisheries, census of Philippine Business and Industry among other relevant surveys beneficial in providing the accurate data for planners, policy and decision-makers.

Alibuyug expressed confidence that this year's List of Establishment will be successful because of the expected cooperation of the concerned sectors in the conduct of the 73-day survey. Dexter A. See
