121st Rizal day on Dec. 30

BAGUIO CITY- The city joins the country in honoring national hero Jose Rizal on the 121st year commemoration of heroism on Dec. 30, at the Rizal monument, Burnham Park.

The program starts at 8AM, with the reading of the "Pambansang Panalangin ng Pagsasakatuparan sa Panata ni Rizal At Katipunan sa Puri at Kabanalan ng Lahing Pilipino," by Rizal Monument Punong barangay Agustin Sister, Sr.

The Philippine Military Academy (PMA) cadets and band shall lead in the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and Baguio Hymn, and Representative to the Congress, Marquez Go delivers the welcome message.

The twenty-one gun salute, and taps and ruffle are performed by PMA cadets, after which flower wreaths are offered by City Officials led by Congressman Go, Mayor Mauricio Domogan and councilors; government line agencies; Rizal Monument barangay officials led by PB Sister; Free and Accepted Masons of the Philippines, Veterans of the Philippines, Knights of Rizal, Kababaihang Rizalista and Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) officials and employees.

Mayor Domogan is the honorable speaker for the occasion, with the PMA band ending the event with the Baguio March.

Offices directly involved in the annual preparations for the celebration include the City Engineering Office, City Environment and Parks Management Office and General Services Office for the sprucing-up and beautification of the area, setting up and installation of needed equipments for the program. The Bureau of Fire Protection clears up the area while the Baguio City Police Office manages the traffic during the event.

Rizal (1861-1896), is honored for his "unquenchable" love for the country and for sparking a bloodless revolution through his writings, subtly and openly supported by his colleagues here and abroad, during the Spanish regime. His sacrifices ended after a court found him guilty of sedition and shot with a firing squad in Luneta Park, Manila. - juliegfianza
