Baguio to defend Batang Pinoy title

BAGUIO CITY – The Summer Capital will send a 331-man delegation to the 2017 Batang Pinoy Luzon Leg Competitions slated on October 21 to 28 in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, composed of athletes, coaches and officials including a medical team.

Vigan will also host next year's Palarong Pambansa.

Baguio is the Batang Pinoy defending champion by garnering 55 gold, 41 silver and 41 bronze medals last year and awarded a cash prize of P250,000.

The athletes will compete in 14 sports events during the week-long activity including athletics, archery, arnis, badminton, baseball, boxing, chess, karatedo, lawn tennis, sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball.

City sports coordinator and delegation head Gaudencio Gonzales said he is confident that Baguio will retain its crown as Batang Pinoy champion.

He added that the winner of this leg will represent Luzon in the National Championships scheduled February next year tentatively set in Cebu.-gaby keith
