Oplan Kaluluwa on, tourist spots included in police spots

BAGUIO CITY – A coordination plan for a hassle -free All Saints and All Souls day, including a walk-through, is being ironed out by city and barangay officials, the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO), volunteers and concerned citizens.

In a meeting with City Administrator Carlos Canilao last week, details as to parking areas, loading and unloading, cemetery set-up, BCPO personnel deployment, area of volunteer responsibility, medical emergency and evacuation plan were thoroughly discussed, including road re-routing.

The Baguio Public Cemetery, and Bakakeng cemetery, Everlasting and Pyramid parks in Kias, Heritage garden in Loakan, and Benin cemetery shall be monitored by at least 270 uniformed personnel, motorcycle cops and 38 barangay tanods, BCPO head Ramil Saculles said during the meeting. Ambulances, emergency vehicles and firetrucks are on standby, with voluntary groups ready to join in peace and order tasks. .

According to Saculles, tourist spots: Heritage Hill; Tam-awan; Lourdes Grotto; Camp John Hay Cathedral, Good Shepherd, Botanical, Burnham, Mines View and Wright Parks; the malls and the public market will also be monitored by BCPO personnel.

Flower and candle vending starts Oct. 26 at the Ganza parking with at least 130 stalls, applications with the City Treasurers Office to start next week.

Cleaning at the Baguio City Public Cemetery has started, with the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) in-charge, it was known.

On Nov. 1, firearms, knives, sharp items, liquor, loud music makers and kites would be confiscated at the cemetery gates, Saculles said.

A walk-through is scheduled to ascertain accessibility and safety within the cemetery and exit points. -juliegfianza
