Sept. 22 Balili river clean-up day

BAGUIO CITY- City government officials, employees and nearby barangay residents conduct a massive clean-up of Balili river and tributaries on Friday, Sept. 22, through an administrative order earlier issued by Mayor Mauricio Domogan.

The clean-up activity contributes to "effective solid and waste water management" and assuredly heightens the public's awareness of their role and responsibilities as stake holder, AO 86, series of 2017, states.

Earlier observed dumping of litter, sewage and domestic and human refuse along Balili river result in floating or islands of garbage along the tributary creeks from Pacdal, Cabinet Hill, New Lucban, Honeymoon, Guisad, Sto. Nino (Slaughter) and Trancoville barangays, the AO further states.

Garbage also causes flooding during heavy rains, with the neighborhood reporting the presence of acrid or nauseating odor along the waterways.

City officials and employees thus, scour the river environs on Friday, with skeletal forces back in the offices for basic services.

Earlier, an AO was declared for a city clean-up every fourth Friday of the month; and another for a city market, central business district and environs clean-up drive. – juliegfianza
