Charter day celebration highlights baguio as city of champs

BAGUIO CITY – This year's charter anniversary celebration of Baguio City will feature city as the land of champions.

This is to highlight the fact that the City produced a lot of frontrunners in various competitions nationally and internationally this year which needs drumbeating as it serves to prove that the city is moving towards excellence in various fields, according to Mayor Mauricio Domogan and Councior Elmer Datuin.

In keeping with the theme, "Baguio at 108: The Land of Champions," the city invited Mixed Martial Arts world champion Eduard Folayang as guest of honor and speaker during the Baguio Day program on Sept. 1.

Datuin said Folayang will lead other winners of international competitions including Ms. International Kylie Verzosa who will be honored along with the outstanding citizens of Baguio during the program.

Baguio Day celebration co-chair city administrator Carlos Canilao said that as in the past years, a calendar of activities will mark the celebration for the whole month of September.

Highlights include the Baguio Day Health Fair at the Baguio Convention Center on August 25 to render various free medical services to indigents, Ms. Baguio and Mr. Baguio pageants, Job Fair on Sept. 16 at the Baguio Convention Center, concerts, cultural shows and various sports competitions. – Aileen P.
