Mayor urges public to help fight climate change

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan said the ill effects of climate change can only be mitigated if everybody gets involved and contribute in whatever way they can to help protect the environment.

He also encouraged the public to read the provisions of the city's Environment Code that was passed recently by the local legislature and put these into practice.

"Ultimately, winning the fight against climate change and global warming boils down to each of us contributing to the protection and conservation of the environment and avoiding acts that are inimical to it," Domogan stressed.

He made this assertion during a Climate Change forum last Monday at City Hall multi-purpose hall spearheaded by Brahma Kumaris in cooperation with the city government.

The half-day activity was participated by representatives from the government, religious groups, civil society organizations, non-government organizations and other sectors. India-based yogi master and climate change expert Golo Joachim Pilz was the event's main speaker.

The Mayor also mentioned the city's plans to construct rain harvesting facilities and the use of other technologies that would take advantage of the fact that Baguio receives the largest amount of rainfall in the country.-gaby keith
