Phil-Jap friendship day celebration

BAGUIO CITY – An interplay of culture and traditions in celebration of Philippines-Japan friendship day, with a photo exhibit, is scheduled on July 23 at the Baguio City National High School Auditorium.

The event is sponsored by the Fil-Japanese Foundation, Inc. – Northern Luzon, the local government of Baguio in partnership with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Baguio Elderly Assembly (BEA) and the National Correspondents Club of Baguio (NCCB).

A floral offering and candle light ceremony at 9 AM at the Filipino-Japanese Peace Memorial Garden along Gov. Pack road opens the celebration, participated in by Filipino-Japanese descendants from the Baguio-Benguet area.

At 1PM in the afternoon, the "Tomodachi" Day cultural show opens at the Baguio City National High School auditorium with the participation of the Kiddies Kingdom International School faculty members, and Boy and Girl Scouts (BSP-GSP) for the invocation, Pambansang Awit, and National Anthem of Japan.

Chair of the Fil-Jap Foundation Carlos Teraoka welcomes the attendee-members as Mayor Mauricio Domogan delivers friendship day greetings before the presentation and c oronation of muses; Miss Friendship, Miss Peace and Miss Solidarity from the Fil-Jap foundation, Baguio City National High School and BSP Baguio council, respectively.

The guest of honor and speaker from the Japanese Embassy shall be introduced by Irene Hamada, afterwhich a harana, chorus, cordillera dances and songs, cosplay, folk dances, Japanese songs and an opera performance from local and Japanese artists will be presented.

Recognition and awarding for ABS-CBN TV Patrol Northern Luzon, Baguio Midland Courier, Sunstar Baguio and Bombo Radyo Philippines Radio station follows, with a special raffle for participants.

Atty. Allyson Locano delivers the "Pasasalamat," and a friendship ring composed of all participants.

Philippine-Japanese friendship day is celebrated for the reparation agreement in the Philippine senate, of diplomatic relations between the two nations, in July 23, 2006 which was also the 50th anniversary of the normalization of said relations.

After tumultuous relations during World War II which ended in 1945, the two countries have since then re-established diplomatic and economic ties. -juliegfianza
