City launches “clean-and-green” contest for barangays

The search is on for the city’s cleanest and greenest barangays as a sidebar of the 16th edition of the  Baguio Flower Festival.

Search chair and city councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda said the clean-and-green competition  integrates the barangay roadside, garden and parks landscaping contest, as suggested by mayor Mauricio Domogan.

Judging will be based on cleanliness and orderliness (sanitary condition, air quality and visual appeal – 40 percent), greening (including landscaping and gardening – 35 percent), and innovation and initiatives, including impact of projects, barangay participation and support (25 percent).

Tabanda said the city has set aside P280,000 for the top prizes, broken down to P100,000 to the first placer, P80,000 to the second, P60,000 to the third and P40,000 to the first honorable mention.

The prizes for the fourth to 10th placers will come from the Baguio Flower Festival Foundation.

Thirty percent of each of the top prizes will be released after the announcement of winners on March 6 while the remaining 70 percent will be given upon submission of the winning barangays’ project proposal to sustain their clean-and-green campaigns.
