City asks airlines anew to service baguio

BAGUIO CITY – The city council reiterated earlier requests to the various airline companies to service the city.

The body approved Resolution No. 25 authored by Councilor Elmer Datuin for the purpose.

“It has been a long time now since an airline company has stopped its flight operations servicing the City of Baguio and… it is high time that talks be initiated… for resumption of regular flights,” the resolution noted.

Datuin said the city being a major tourist destination needs air travel service “to maximize its potentials for tourism growth.”

“The Manila-Baguio route is a vital travel link considering that the city is one o the premiere venue for tourism and business events,” he said.

“There is a substantial number of tourists and local residents who would like to avail of travel by air to and from the city and the Manila-Baguio-Baguio-Manila route would greatly benefit travelers by way of convenience and faster travel time,” he added.

The body in the past approved similar resolutions.

In 2006, the body asked Philippine Airlines (PAL), Cebu Pacific and others to provide additional air transport services to the city.

The said request was reiterated in 2008.

In 2009, the body asked the South East Asian Airlines (SEAIR) to reconsider the city as one of its local destinations to augment the transportation services in the city.
