Mayor ‘very satisfied’ with ERS operation

BAGUIO CITY – The Environmental Recycling System (ERS) machines are now in full blasts.

On site inspection Monday by City Mayor Mauricio Domogan proved the machines are working perfectly.

“I am happy with its operation and I hope it will be very successful,” Domogan said.

Protech has begun processing bio-degradable wastes January 17 during the machines first full operation.

The machines will be composting 48 tons of bio-degradable wastes a day while residual wastes will be hauled by the company at no cost to the city.

“As soon as the new garbage trucks are delivered, we will be implementing the no segregation no collection policy,” he stressed.

Domogan also appealed to residents to start segregating their wastes and to bring them out only during the scheduled collection time.

This he said will be a big help if residents learn to cooperate.

At present, the city produces 160 tons of garbage a day classified as 66 tons bio-degradable, 53 residual and the rest recyclable.

Another ERS machine will also be purchased for the city’s Sewage Treatment Plant(STP).

Domogan said the old STP also needs the machine which can be used to purify sewage water dumped into the Balili river.

The ERS which will be purchased for the STP is expected to solve waste water problems in the city as more sewer lines are being connected to it while addressing environmental and ecological concerns of Benguet.
