Prisoners find poetry on mother’s day

“In the absence of space / She puts a smile on the moon’s face / making sure life below her is at peace with the equation of chaos.”

That’s how one male prisoner set to poetry the city jail’s observance of Mother’s Day early last Sunday afternoon, just after the 447 occupants watched with guards the lack of poetry which Manny Pacquiao shamed Shane Mosley. (The live cable connection for the fight was courtesy of Skycable Family, Baguio Correspondents and Broadcasters Club led by Miggs Velarde and The Miners headed by Zards Gacad. The giant screen was installed by Visionworks which did the same when the prisoners rooted and voted for Baguio’s Metamorphosis and singer Ingrid Payaket, the city’s finalists in last year’s “Pilipinas Got Talent”.)

Hope flickers for city on John Hay rental share collection

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan is hopeful that the city government can finally collect its share from the rental of Camp John Hay after the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) gave the developer Camp John Hay Development Corporation (CJHDevCo) a deadline to settle its mounting rental obligation.

The mayor and the members of the city council last Tuesday met with the representatives of the BCDA, the CJHDevCo and the John Hay Management Corp. (JHMC), a subsidiary of the BCDA mandated to monitor the facility’s development to thresh out issues on the rental share and the purchase of the Baguio Convention Center.

Children protection council re-organized

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan last week issued Administrative Order (AO) 60 for the re-organization of the city council for the protection of children; with four distinct committees: Survival, Development, Protection and Participation. Said council shall attend to plans, programs and policies that are “gender-fair, culturally relevant and responsive” to needs of children 0 to below 18 years of age.

The mayor heads the council with the Save Our School Children Foundation Inc., (SOSFI) as co-The Participation Committee is headed by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) City Director with the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation (SKF) President; Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) President; City Information Officer and Social Services Division (SSD), both of the City Mayor’s Office (CMO); Baguio Center for Young Adults (BCYA), Inc; and CCF Saleng Parents’ Asociation, as members.

Pedestrian lane closure to be considered in traffic measures – Mayor

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan Wednesday said the city will consider the closure of some of the pedestrian lanes here if it will help improve the city’s traffic condition.

The city council last Monday decided to refer to the mayor the proposed resolution of Councilor Perlita Rondez asking the Baguio City Police Office and other concerned agencies to study the possibility of reducing the existing pedestrian lanes at the central business district especially along Session Road. The council committee on public protection and safety suggested the conduct of a 30-day experiment on this end but the city council decided to first endorse the proposal to the executive department for recommendations.

Mayor cautions bocaps in holding bingo social

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan this week cautioned barangay officials not to conduct questionable fund raising activities during the barangay officialsgeneral assembly.

Domogan said, “he hopes that barangay captains carefully read the provisions of the law”.

Though fund raising activities are allowed, Domogan said they should carefully choose what activities they want to conduct.

13-year old Baguio boy receives P5,000 cash donation

Ernesto Viray, father of Mark Anthony, the ailing 13-year old Baguio boy receives P5,000 cash donation from Brent School International Grade 9 Class President Erin Esguerra and Class Treasurer Diane Magnual for his continued Chemotherapy sessions last April 27. Another P5,000 was given by International Car racing Champ Carlos Anton.


Dads recount legislative work on betel-nut chewing, smoking, traffic flow

Unlike smokers, betel nut chewers can still do their thing in public places up here, so says an amendatory ordinance the city council passed last Feb. 14.

Public’s general welfare is my primary concern-Mayor

BAGUIO CITY – During the weekly Ugnayan last Wednesday, Mayor Mauricio Domogan stated that peace and order in the city is one of his priorities.

The city mayor said that “there is a lack of manpower on improving and maintaining peace and order,” as he bemoaned the lack of personnel to maintain peace and order, having the ratio of only one policeman to about 1500 persons during daytime. He however lauded the presence of auxiliaries to augment such need. Training for police auxiliaries such as barangay tanods in the city has been undergoing under the supervision of the BCPO as of the mayor’s request.

Mayor orders bocaps to strictly implement waste segregation
