Baguio, LISTT areas finally ink cluster development approach

You're sure it's a government project if it takes too long to get off the ground and be implemented.

That ribbing on the Great Walls of China – which took centuries to build –may apply to some of the on-going road projects. Some urban planners say it also applies to the BLISTT concept of cluster development for Baguio and the adjoining towns of Benguet: La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba and Tublay.

Good housekeeping is a vehicle towards autonomy – RDC officials



BAGUIO CITY July 27 – The compliance of ninety one percent of local governments in the Cordillera to the Aquino administration's Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH) is a plus factor to convince the national government to support the region's renewed quest for autonomous status since local officials were able to prove that they can effectively and efficiently perform the functions of government and implement the Aquino administration's thrust of transparent and accountable governance.

UB Defenders land overall in National TKD tourney

Baguio's Taekwondo jins once again topped over-all standing in the Smart National Poomsae Championships Sunday (July 22) at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Metro Manila.

The Smart National Poomsae (forms) Taekwondo Championships is an event organized by the Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) and sponsored by Smart Communications Inc., PLDT, Milo, MVP Sports Foundation and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

More or less 1,400 participants came to the prestigious event in the sport of Taekwondo from the three main islands of the country; Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and competed in five major events namely; individual standard poomsae, pair and team free style, synchronized and creative poomsae.

Clean-up drive takes full swing in city’s rivers

BAGUIO CITY – the city government here spearheaded a major clean-up of its tributaries flowing directly to Balili River of La Trinidad, Benguet.

Through the combined effort of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, Communication Groups Solar Comm, Comm. Ways, Baguio Fire Department, BB-Picag, PAF reservists, Spectrum, city universities and officials of the affected barangays and volunteers, the whole stretch of Sto. Nino river all the way to the Bell church literally have been freed from debris and other pollutants.

The clean-up is part of rehabilitation efforts to restore Baguio rivers to its clean and pristine state and a way to show people of the importance of their help in efforts to save the city's tributaries from further decay.

City’s brand new trucks ready for action

BAGUIO CITY – the needed muscle for the city's top performers, the garbage collectors has finally arrived in this mountain resort.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan and City General Services Officer Romeo Concio personally received from representatives of Hino Philippines four brand new dump trucks to augment the trucks which are presently in operation.

Currently, there are thirteen dump trucks making the rounds in collecting the city's waste which is short from the ideal twenty five needed to effectively boost collections.

Mayor welcomes national archives convention in city

BAGUIO CITY – the National Archives of the Philippines (NAP), the leading body in the protection and rationalization of records keeping in the country held their session in this mountain city this week.

More or less three hundred participants from all over the Philippines comprising Department and division heads, local chief executives, record officers, record custodians and other government workers in charge of government records converged in Hotel Veniz for the seminar on Basic records and archives management.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan, who was the guest of honor, welcomed the group last July 24 with the admission that he is not an expert when it comes to records keeping.

Philex initiates settlement of boundary row

TUBA, Benguet July 25 – Philex Mining Corporation made initial confidence-building measures by depositing around P29 million in escrow to convince municipal officials of Tuba and Itogon to immediately settle their existing boundary conflict and avail of the benefits of the contested business taxes that are supposed to be paid by the company.
