Lower House Committee okays Autonomy Act

BAGUIO CITY – The House of Representatives Committee on Local Government has approved on committee level House Bill 5595 entitled "An Act Establishing the Cordillera Autonomous Region" during its hearing last Wednesday.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan who attended the hearing said the bill was passed without many questions or debates.

Book on Igorots to be launched in April

"Igorot by Heart", a book compilation of keynote speeches and presentations from the eight previous International Igorot Consultations (IIC) of the Igorot Global Organization (IGO)will be launched on April 11 at the 9th IIC set at the Baguio Country Club here.

"The essays on the Igorots - the mountain people of the Cordillera in Northern Luzon, Philippines – cover land, people and culture," according to the synopsis released by the book editors. "These accounts span 100 years of Igorot experiences, from the 1904 St. Louis Fair in St. Louis, Missouri, USA and the 1909 Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition in Seattle, Washington, USA, to the second and third generation Igorots presently residing in North America and Europe."

Dads set separate inquiry on SM lot sale

BAGUIO CITY – Aside from conducting a public hearing on the proposed expansion of SM Baguio and the opposition it generated, the city council will conduct a separate inquiry on the circumstances leading to the sale, transfer and development of the lot occupied by the mall and its expansion area on March 5.

The body last Monday invited city planning and development officer-in-charge Engr. Evelyn Cayat, Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) Cordillera director Teresita Galacgac and Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Cordillera regional executive director Clarence Baguilat to shed light on the issue in its session at 2 p.m.

City to fete top ten Business Taxpayers, resets raffle draw to March 23

BAGUIO CITY – The city government will fete the top ten business taxpayers in the city this year in an awarding program set during the flag-raising ceremonies on March 26, 8 a.m. at the City Hall grounds.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan said this is one of the city's ways of showing its gratitude for the taxpayers for keeping their obligations.

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan this week formed the committee for the city's 'Search for Outstanding Citizen's of Baguio (SOCOB).

Administrative order 22 Series of 2012 specifically created members of the committee composed of various individuals tasked to accept nominations for this year's search.

Cordillera to join nation-wide earthquake drill on March 1

While earthquakes can't still be predicted, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council has set a nation-wide drill on March 1 to help people "predict" their responsible individual and collective responses should an earth-shaker occur.

Regional director Olivia Luces of the Office of Civil Defense has called on heads of Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (LDRRMC) to mobilize their communities for the simultaneous response and evacuation drill, the time of which will be announced early this week.

Council sets public hearing on SM issue, seeks status quo on trees

BAGUIO CITY – The city council will hold a public hearing on the SM Baguio expansion project and the impending cutting and balling out of trees in the area tomorrow (Monday), 2 p.m. at the Sangguniang Panlungsod session hall.

The body last Monday voted to convert its regular session into a public hearing to give chance to protagonists to ventilate their stands on the issue which became controversial amid rousing opposition generated by the expansion project's expected balling out of 182 trees at the mall company's newly acquired property adjacent to its present site in Luneta Hill.

Clup consultations wrapped up; Mayor open to recommendations

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan Thursday expressed reception to the recommendations culled from the various sectors consulted on theproposed updated Baguio City Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) and Zoning Ordinance.

The mayor who heads the City Development Council (CDC) which drafted the updated CLUP said there are entries in the draft that need to be changed for practical reasons like the limit on the number of stories recommended for buildings in the city.

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan this week has approved operators of the Carnival here to operate in consonance with the celebrations of the flower Festival.

The mayor said he has given the go signal for Blue Screen Entertainment to go on with their activity on a Temporary basis or until March 4 for it to make good its promise of a 'wholesome entertainment' for Baguio residents and visitors.

BAGUIO CITY – It's official, five promising Baguio teens will represent the country in the international arena.

After an impressive performance during the Taekwondo Qualifiers last February 18 and 19 held at the National Taekwondo Gym in Metro Manila, five Baguio jins were chosen to form part of the prestigious Philippine Juniors Taekwondo Team which will represent the country in International Championships this year.
