Vehicle owners given free emission test
In line with the 25th Cordillera Day celebration, the Roadside Inspection Testing and Monitoring Team (RITMT) from the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) conducted a free emission testing along Harrison Road last July 6.
Smoke testing procedures and emission standards were based on Ordinance 61-2008, known as the Clean Air Ordinance of the City of Baguio. The team used the Compact Smoke Analyzer to measure the opacity coming from a diesel-fed vehicle's exhaust pipe. Opacity refers to the amount of light obscured by the particle pollutants from the vehicles exhaust. While a Gas Smoke Analyzer will read the Hydrocarbon (HC) and Carbon monoxide (CO) discharged bygas-fed and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) fed vehicles.
Only 15 gasoline-fueled vehicles, 11 LPGfed vehicles and 74 diesel-fueled vehicles were voluntarily submitted for testing.
With this initiative, motorists, drivers and operators is encourage to test their vehicles every Friday for the month of July as a guide to make the necessary vehicle maintenance and helps in reducing air pollution in the city.
