US firm offers to conduct feasibility study on cable car transport system in city

BAGUIO CITY – A local construction company affiliated with a United States-based developer of a solar-powered surface transportation network has offered to conduct a feasibility study on the operation of an alternative transport system using "solar-powered flying pods" or cable cars in the city.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan on Tuesday received the unsolicited proposal of Ryanyx Construction and General Services, a local representative of US-based Transit X LLC through chairman and chief executive officer Rufino Barinan to undertake a comprehensive study to determine the viability of operating Transit X system described as "high capacity solar-powered automated elevated pod networks" in the City.

Senate Consultation


Mayor Mauricio G. Consulting the Senate President


Mayor Mauricio, Chairman of both the Cordillera's Regional Development Council (RDC) and the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) had more private moment with Senate President Koko Pimentel at the sideline during the Regional Consultation on the proposed legislation to amend the Constitution last Friday March 16 at the UC Theater. It should be noted that the proposed Organic Act for the Creation of the Autonomous Region of the Cordillera Authored by Senator Migz Zubiri is now pending in the senate. The Senate President like his father also a former Senate President is an Autonomy advocate. ****


Dads to consult public on proposal to implement burnham master plan

BAGUIO CITY – The City Council will hold a public consultation on the proposed ordinance authorizing the implementation of the master development plan for Burnham Park particularly the site of the former city auditorium and the new library grounds and parks management.

Set on March 21 at 8 a.m. at the Sangguniang Panlungsod session hall, the hearing will be led by the committee on urban planning, lands and housing.

Urban farmers' month celebration in may

BAGUIO CITY – The City will celebrate Urban Farmers' Month in May of each year as decreed in Ordinance No. 35 series of 2018 approved by the City Council last March 5.

Councilor Leandro Yangot Jr., author of the measure, said the celebration has to be institutionalized to bring more farmers and interested residents closer to the programs and projects of the agriculture sector.

Council adopts participatory legislation

BAGUIO CITY – The City Council last Monday formally adopted the principle of participatory legislation as part of the Body's lawmaking procedures through Ordinance No. 36 series of 2018 approved on final reading last March 5.

Authored by Vice Mayor Edison Bilog and all councilors, the measure sets the guidelines governing the conduct of participatory legislation or the crafting of laws with the involvement of the affected constituents and stakeholders in the City.

As decreed, the Body will employ different participation strategies during public participation depending on the nature of the proposal subject to the following guidelines:

Carnival operations in Burnham Park okayed

BAGUIO CITY March 14 – Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan said that he is inclined to approve the proposed 3-month operation of amusement rides within designated portions of Burnham Park to provide an added attractions for park goers, especially the children wanting to enjoy the various amenities of the city's premier park.

The local chief executive underscored that he will not allow the operation of the amusement rides within portions of the Melvin Jones grandstand because of existing legal issues that have not been resolved aside from the serious damage that could be inflicted in the football ground during the operation of the rides.

Development of city's landfill pursued

BAGUIO CITY March 13 – The local government is setting its sights on the immediate development of a 1-hectare portion of the Antamok open pit area in nearby Itogon, Benguet for the put up of the city's own engineered sanitary landfill (ESL) to eventually stop the hauling of the residual waste to the Urdaneta landfill in Pangasinan.

Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan ordered the members of the city survey team to fast track the finalization of the survey results on what portions of the 5 titles of Benguet Corporation (BC) will be used to accumulate the 24.11 hectares which will be the subject of added of usufruct between the mining company and the local government.

Smoke Hunters


The Baguio Smoke Free Task Force trained at least 220 anti-smoking enforcers that will help the Task Force in the implementation of the COB no. 34 series 2017 or the Smoke Free Baguio Ordinance. The training of these enforcers who came from the different barangays and the Public Order and Safety Division (POSD) is a requirement before Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan will deputize them as Smoke Free Baguio enforcers and shall be issued citation tickets to be use for would be violators. Late last year, at least 70 from the POSD had been trained and deputized to apprehend violators of this Ordinance. Use of Dairy Farm transfer station legitimized

BAGUIO CITY March 15 – The Cordillera office of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB-CAR) recently issued the required certificate of non-coverage to the local government allowing the use of a one hectare portion of the Baguio Dairy Farm as the city's temporary transfer station for the hauling of its residual waste to the Urdaneta sanitary landfill.

Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan expressed his gratitude to the unrelenting and uncompromising support being shown by the EMB-CAR officials and personnel, especially in extending the needed technical assistance for the eventual determination of the permanent solution to the city's garbage disposal woes.

Beneco sets april 21 elections for six baguio districts

Elections to select the incoming six district directors for Baguio of the Benguet Electric Cooperative will he simultaneously held on April 21, as set by the Beneco board during its meeting last Tuesday.

The polls will be for districts I (Pacdal-Gibraltar- Mines View –Engineer's Hill area), II (Camp 7-Bakakeng-Sto. Tomas.- San Vicente), III ( City Camp – Asin Rd.). IV (Pinget- Fairview- Quezon Hill – Irisan- Pinsao), V (Happy Homes to City Market), and VI (Sumulong – Holy Ghost Extension and Proper).

City to send final demand to Uniwide

BAGUIO CITY March 13 – Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan ordered the concerned offices of the local government to send a final demand to the management of Uniwide Realty and Sales Development Corporation whether or not the company is still interested to pursue the long overdue development of the city public market.

The local chief executive pointed out the city needs to clarify from Uniwide its interest to pursue the city public market development amidst the company's insolvency issue pending appeal with the Court of Appeals (CA).

Parking exemptions to building owners to be revoked

BAGUIO CITY March 14 – The City Council is studying the possibility of revoking all the previous exemptions granted by the local legislative body to several building owners to use the Ganza parking area and other private parking areas in the city as their off-site parking spaces to correct their deficiencies in parking slots within their structures.

The recommendation to cancel all the previous exemptions that were granted to several building owners around the city was raised by Councilor EdgarM. Avila during the discussion of the confirmation of a memorandum of agreement entered between the local government and All Asia Structures, Inc. allowing the lease of 6 slots of the Ganza parking area to augment the company's parking deficiency when it converted portions of its building along Otek St. to commercial spaces being rented out to tenants.

City joins earth hour observance on march 24

BAGUIO CITY - With the sustained commitment of the City against climate change, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) again invited the city government of Baguio to join the global commemoration of Earth Hour which will be held on March 24 starting from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Earth hour is the worldwide switching-off the lights for 60 minutes or beyond to spread awareness on environmental issues and climate change.

CBAO urged to prioritize put up of parking structure

Baguio city March 15 – Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan urged the City Buildings and Architecture Office (CBAO) to prioritize the finalization of the plans and specifications of the proposed multi-level parking structure that will be erected in the vacant lot near the Baguio fire department.

The local chief executive underscored the importance of putting up the multi-level parking structure funded by available local funds to provide adequate parking spaces for government vehicles and clients of the different offices situated within the main building of city hall.
