Mayor firm on total firecracker ban in Baguio

BAGUIO CITY December 05 – Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan underscored that the local government is firm in imposing a total ban on the sale, distribution and use of firecrackers and pyrotechnic materials in the city during the Yuletide revelry to sustain the continuous decline of the number of firecracker-related injuries and for the realization of zero casualties in the future.

The local chief executive claimed it is high time for the national law to be amended to prohibit the manufacture of firecrackers and pyrotechnic materials and impose a total ban on the sale and distribution of the hazardous materials to lessen the firecracker related injuries and allow people to embrace alternative ways of celebrating the Yuletide season.

Tourists encouraged to leave cars in accommodation sites

BAGUIO CITY – Tourists will be encouraged to leave their cars in their accommodation sites or in any designated parking areas and instead take public transport while sightseeing around the city.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan signed City Council Resolution No. 400-17 requesting the owners and managers of hotels, inns, condominiums and transient houses in the city to take the lead in this advocacy by conspicuously displaying in their premises an advisory for their guests to leave their vehicles and make use of public utility vehicles in touring the city.

4 region Gawad KALASAG winners named

BAGUIO CITY December 05 – Four local governments, private and public institutions were adjudged as this year's regional winners in the Gawad Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan (KALASAG) awarding rites that was held at the Baguio Country Club's Cordillera Convention Hall last December 1, 2017.

Andrew Alex Uy, Regional Director of the Cordillera office of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD-CAR), said all the regional winners were able to qualify for the national Gawad KALASAG awards which will be held in Metro Manila on Monday, December 11, 2017. Concerned agencies remain optimistic that a number of the winners will be able to bring home the coveted national recognition for disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) efforts being implemented by the said winners.

OCD chief urges resilience in disaster management

BAGUIO CITY December 05 – Undersecretary Ricardo Jalag of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) challenged local governments, groups, and individuals to pursue excellence in disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) for the overall benefit of the environment and the nation as a whole in the realization of zero casualties during the occurrence of natural and man-made calamities in the future.

Jalag, who served as the guest of honor and speaker during the regional awarding of winners of the Gawad Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan (KALASAG) held at the Baguio Country Club's Cordillera Convention Hall last December 1, 2017, urged the local officials, groups, and individuals to continue exceeding their accomplishments on DRRM to be able to empower people to be resilient during the occurrence of calamities in their places.

BAGUIO CITY – Dec. 10 of each year is International Human Rights Day in the city.

Mayor Mauricio Domogan signed Resolution No. 408-17 making it a yearly observance and supporting the activities lined up for the celebration.

City sets youth summit on leadership, entrepreneurial dev't

BAGUIO CITY – A youth summit aimed at enhancing youth leadership through character building and entrepreneurial development is set on Dec. 12-13, 7:30 a.m. to 5p.m. at the Baguio Convention Center.

Youth group leaders and members have been invited to the forum spearheaded by the city council through the committee on social services, women and urban poor chaired by Councilor Lilia Farinas and the committee on youth welfare and development under Councilor Michael Lawana.

Mayor forms selection committee for public-private partnership ordinance

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan last week created the Public-Private Partnership for the People Initiative (P4) selection committee pursuant to Ordinance No. 61 series of 2017 or the Baguio City LGU P4 Code.

The committee will take charge of selecting a private sector proponent for specific P4 projects to be implemented in the city.

Asin hydro developer sues for time

BAGUIO CITY December 06 – The winning developer of the rehabilitation and operation of the city-owned Asin mini hydropower plants requested the local government for an extension of time to complete its studies relative to the eventual operation of the renewable energy plants.

In his letter to Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan, Kaltimex Energy Philippines Senior Advisor Rodrigo E. Cabrera requested the city to grant them an additional 3 months, or up to March 2018, for the submission of their proposals on how to implement the project and that the company shall update the local government of any significant developments as it navigates through the untangling the many issues surrounding the project, many allegedly beyond the developer's control, especially on the side of the energy department.

City to bid out market stalls with delinquencies dec. 11

BAGUIO CITY – The City Government will bid out the city market stalls with payment delinquencies on Dec. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Multi-Purpose Hall, City Hall.

Market Supt. Fernando Ragma Jr. said at least 95 stalls are being readied for auction but the number may go down as leaseholders have been given until Sunday to settle their obligation.
